Tony winner Phylicia Rashad, currently represented on Broadway with Best Play Tony winner Purpose, will direct the regional premiere of Paul Oakley Stovall (Hamilton)'s Immediate Family at North Carolina's Blumenthal Arts, playing the company's Booth Playhouse July 29-August 31.
The work is set at the Bryant family reunion, which is thrown into chaos when the middle son brings his boyfriend. The work played earlier runs at Chicago's Goodman Theatre and Los Angeles' Mark Taper Forum, the latter also directed by Rashad.
The North Carolina staging will feature Christina Sajous as Evy, Elijah Jones as Jesse, Freddie Fulton as Tony, Andy Mientus as Kristian, Kai Almeda Heath as Nina, and Britney Coleman as Ronnie. Standbys Deon Releford-Lee, Samuel Douglas, Aigner Mizzelle, and Vanessa R. Butler will round out the company. Casting is by ARC's Duncan Stewart and Jarrett Reiche.
The production will feature set design by Paul Tate dePoo III, costume design by Colleen Morris-Glennon, lighting design by Levi J. Wilkins, and sound design by Mikaal Sulaiman.
