London News Susan Sarandon Will Star in U.K. Premiere of Tracy Letts’ Mary Page Marlowe

Matilda the Musical's Andrea Riseborough will co-star in the Old Vic production.

London's The Old Vic will give a U.K. premiere to Tracy LettsMary Page Marlowe this fall, with performances running September 23-November 1. Opening night will be October 8.

Leading the cast will be Susan Sarandon (Dead Man Walking) and Andrea Riseborough (Matilda the Musical), both at different ages of the same title character. Letts' play paints a multi-decade portrait of Mary, depicting her at five ages over 11 scenes and 70 years. Additional casting, by Jim Carnahan, is to be announced.

Sarandon will make her U.K. stage debut with the performance, while Riseborough is making a return to the stage after 15 years away working in film and TV.

Matthew Warchus is directing, kicking off his final season as artistic director of the company. The production will see the London theatre configured to be completely in-the-round. The staging will feature scenic and costume design by Rob Howell, lighting design by Hugh Vanstone, and sound design by Simon Baker.

Tickets go on sale at 10 AM BST June 30, with general sales following July 4.

Letts' play made its world premiere at Chicago's Steppenwolf in 2016, coming to Off-Broadway via Second Stage Theater in 2018. The upcoming London staging is new.
